If people want stills as well as video then clicks are inevatable if using a DSLR, but there is absolutely no excuse for flashes going off. Just light the scene properly and there will be plenty of light for still photography. Plus shooting video in the dark will always result in poor video, so decent lighting is essential. It's often said to those wanting to upgrade from a camera phone, the most important first upgrade is lights. Then get a better camera. But even a phone will shoot better pics and video if the scene is properly lit.

I think it has somewhat. A few things to keep in mind is that a lot of producers from our formative eras aren't around anymore - and those that still are may not necessarily be churning out as much as they used to. As I've said before, the old stuff is nice, but old stuff is old. Also, to me anyway, it seems like most producers these days have it in quantity but not so much on quality. Churning out 100 videos or 1000 videos is one thing, but how many are worth viewing? Now I get it - not everyone has the resources to put together some professional-grade, AAA-tier product. That said, there are some things that could be done to improve the end product that shows it was given some love and attention.

Outfits - some producers are better at this than others. A number of sets have me thinking that the equipped outfit would be improved with a few changes. I'm not necessarily speaking of designer names (some just don't have the budget for that after all), though hey, if you can get them you can get them. Locations - again, this is probably limited by things like budget, time of year, and accessibility. Showers are fiscally and socially accessible, but there is only so much one can do in them, and some can be tight spaces to work with.

One thing that can be worked on (and maybe this has changed for the guilty producers) is the picture guy rolling alongside the video guy, and you get the flashing and clicking. It can be a bit annoying to watch (and hear if you have the sound on) - the "lightning storm" look generally isn't a good one. Also, shooting for photos and shooting for videos are 2 different things.

I know, I'm slowly becoming Old Man Scolds At Modern World. I'm never going to recapture the impact of that first wetlook video, old as it now is.

Maybe I am just spoiled, but I think wetlook has gotten stale over the past few years.

Outfits seems to be barely anything but t-shirt, jeans and sneakers or sports outfits and locations has a very high chance of being either a shower or a pool. I get that this is down to safe options but I wouldn't mind seeing something a little more classy like office outfits, tennis outfits or school uniforms. As for locations you can have wetlook fun if you bring water along with you or seek alternate ways of using a shower.

Heck I paid someone to stuff their butt in a toilet and flush it just to see how it would look.
