I don’t play this game, which may be why I tend not to feel welcome. I am not part of the echo chamber, here or anywhere else.

My own fascination with wetlook continues to confuse me. I can’t understand why I feel the way I do, and what specifically I am looking for.

Have you ever been listening to a piece of music, only to find that the tune doesn’t go the way it’s supposed to? You realise that, in your mind, you’ve recomposed it to suit you better, and the original no longer sounds as good as it could. (Sometimes I will alter the melody, other times I will fix weird problems with the tempo.)

Some music has particular subtleties such as an interesting but quiet bassline that you may find yourself focusing on and amplifying in your mind, such that the real tune sounds underwhelming afterwards.

Wetlook is kind of like that: real wetlook seldom delivers what I have extracted and amplified from it. I’ve been alone so long now that I’m seeking, in wetlook, my “amplified” version, details and intricacies that you don’t get in real life. When I was two or three decades younger, when this was all new, anything was exciting. Now, many years on, and just looking at pixels on a screen, I cannot recapture what I felt back then. I’ve never progressed to the next level of experience—sharing it with someone special—and something tells me that all these fetishes are just some kind of bizarre substitute for real love, for sharing your soul with someone, for when you’re more focused on who you’re spending your time with, than how.
