A quick internet search brings up news items stretching back 10 years or more about people being fined for jumping in Roman fountains (especially but by no means only the Trevi). What is new (according to the reports I have found) is a ban on all sorts of other low grade anti-social behaviour as well. I agree with Soak_ed; it has got to be a good idea to curb the idiots. |

By Soak_ed - soak_ed@hotmail.com Mon 17/06/19 08:06:35 GMT The rule isn't stupid, it is necessary. Years ago, Europe wasn't choked with fat, ignorant, inconsiderate tourists doing all manner of stupid things. Nowadays, major European cities are choked with these loud fools. Tourists get drunk, they make a lot of noise and are generally a pain in the ass. If there weren't rules about jumping in the fountains in Rome, untold damage to art treasures could be done by these idiots. There is also the potential for the tourists to injure themselves, which really isn't so bad because stupidity should hurt. I say not only ban people from jumping in fountains in Rome, but control the loud, obnoxious, stupid ones by giving them fines for their behavior. These people should show some respect when they visit other countries. |
