Private swimming pools are very rare in the UK, and pool parties therefore likewise. Most significant towns have a public swimming pool - most owned by the local authority - but as far as I know clothed swimming is not allowed (though I haven't asked, to be honest, since they are no use to me because my asthmatic chest is allergic to chlorine). One exception I know of is that open-air pools used to allow everybody to get thrown in fully clothed on the last day of the season - usually late September so you've probably just missed it, and I don't know whether it still happens anyway.
But in every other publicly accessible body of water, few people will pay any attention if you go in fully clothed. The UK's great advantage is that it is a long narrow country surrounded by sea, so you're never very far from a beach, and (as my Flickr photos show) clothed swimming is common at any beach. But I have also swum clothed in places as different as mountain lochans in the Cairngorms, waterfalls in the Brecon Beacons, and rivers all over the country, without getting more than a passing glance. I would stick to the smaller rivers, though - swimming, very often clothed, used to be routine in summer in the Thames at Reading and Oxford, for example, but it is now considered dangerous and frowned on by the authorities.
Its getting a bit late in the year for outdoor swimming in the UK climate, but the sea is still relatively warm - for example the sea temperature is currently 16.1C at Southend-on-Sea; the Met Office is forecasting sunny intervals and an air temperature of 16C there; high tide is at 12:29 which means that the sea will go out of reach beyond the mud at about 4pm so get there before then - and I bet you'll find quite a few other people there with clothes on in the sea tomorrow - and almost nobody with a swim suit! |
