I agree with what Ytsen said. I have been to Songkran 15 times over the last 20 years and never once did I get sick from the water in the canals or street water being thrown over you. In Chiang Mai the local government take extra measures about 2 weeks prior to Songkran by dumping loads of water purification chemicals into the canals before Songkran starts. Ytsen is right about Pattaya, i.e. it is an open sewer and just as bad as Copacabana beach in Rio, which I have also visited 5-6 times as well. In the Pattaya area it is best to avoid going in the water on Pattaya beach and to take a 10 minute taxi ride to the other side of the peninsular to Jomtien Beach, which is much cleaner and nicer, or take a 30 minute ride to Bangsaen Beach instead.

The only times I got sick in Thailand, 2 times, was not due to the state of the water, but due to the ICE water being thrown over me and cold temperatures of the air conditioning systems they have in their shopping centers.......i.,e. when you are walking in 95 degree heat with a wet t shirt on...it is no problem.....but when you go inside a shopping center to use the bathroom and those shopping centers have an AC set to around 65 degrees.....then your body goes thru a 30 degree temperature drop when you go inside, and having a wet t shirt on can cause a mild case of pneumonia....so I got sick a couple of times.....until I learned my lesson....i.e. never go inside a freezing cold shopping center with a wet t shirt on.....always wait outside until your t shirt is dry before you go inside.

Hi, I´m doing since years now and never became thick from the water in Chiang Mai.

In the streets they are using clean tap water. If you got to the channel the water is truly running back from the street into the channel.

But if you see the big amount of fishes in the channel, it can´t be poisonous.

In Opposite to Pattaya. I´m getting every time a bad cough from the never cleaned AC in the hotel.

Back to the funny fallow with no name from the top:

Somehow is is comparing pictures done with a high end photo-camera with snapshots coming from videos.

That is not working.

Photographers are working with two people using both types of cameras to do pictures and videos.

Then you can do good photos to sell, but for me these shots shell only show free samples from the video.

I don´t see that the quality of my snapshots is poorer than the quality from others done for this special case.

Considering the news about the state of the Brazil Olympics' water quality, I was always curious about the body of water featured so many times in Thai Songkran videos and pictures. This looks to be like storm runoff water or at the least, a canal. Does anyone know how polluted it might be? Is it a case of just kind of dealing with dirty water for the short term for the fun of Songkran. Is it surprisingly a clean or clean-ish body of water or is it actually like sewer and street runoff?
