For me the question is "is it 'street legal' ie. would a person wearing it be allowed in a public place where casual dress is allowed? Swim trunks in the style of shorts, swim dresses, tankini tops, burquinis, and shirts made of swimwear material would be allowed, and they are often worn as street clothes, of I consider them valid wetlook. Bikinis, standard one piece swimsuits, and speedos would not be allowed in most public places, therefore they are not valid wetlook. The outfits pictured here kind of resemble yoga or ballet costumes. I think that if these women showed up wearing these outfits, they would be allowed in most fast food joints, arcades, and casinos (American casinos anyway, I have read that in some parts of the world casinos require formal or semi formal attire). Therefore I would say that this qualifies as valid wetlook.
Speaking of American casinos and customer's attire, American casinos are about as egalitarian as it gets. You will sometimes see men and women in Caesars Palace wearing swim trunks and t-shirts, and you will sometimes see men in Poker Palace wearing suits and women in elegant dresses. (Poker Palace is a small low roller dive joint in North Las Vegas that still has $1 blackjack. I love that place!) One gambling book I read said that "as long as a person has money, casinos will put up with almost anything. |

Wetlook purists like me will say that swimming in anything made and sold for swimming, surfing, waterskiing, diving, etc. including burkinis doesn't count as wetlook. I've occasionally seeing women wearing swim dresses... perhaps a little more modest than a conventional swimsuit, looking almost like a mini dress, and very sexy, but it isn't wetlook.
Other folks will point to all the ways a wet outfit will look sexy - usually body hugging shine - and deem it great wetlook when it's a dive suit, or surfing suit.
They are attractive models, and they do look nice in those pictures, but the wetlook purist in me is screaming "it isn't wetlook!". |

I've seen in the Mediterranean see a woman in a body-covering swimsuit and leggings in the water. She was doing it for modesty reasons because those waves were really strong. I didn't know about those waves, so my regular swimsuit got almost torn off a couple of times in the water. Luckily it was only me and her in the water.
But see, such outfit was for swimming. So that's why I am not sure. |
