Unfortunately in the UK (and probably many other countries) the rules for so-called public pools are very different from most other swimming locations (sea, rivers, fountains, etc.) :-(

Clothing seems to be quite acceptable at the beach (for both genders), mainly because of the risk of skin cancer due to global warming (global WAMming!). However, public pools (that is council-owned pools operated for the majority of members of the public) are bound by hygiene regulations, and hence generally prevent males from wearing tops, and females from wearing anything that may ''cause a complaint'' (i.e. wetlook material).

It's much easier for councils to put an outright ban on everything that isn't ''proper swimwear'' than to inspect each member of the public individually to make sure their clothing (or lack of it) is clean, free from fluff and dye leakage, not clingy or transparent, and safe to swim in. In other words, NO FUN IS ALLOWED IN PUBLIC POOLS :-(

What I've done in the past is either book the pool (then you can usually wear what you like, except shoes -- safety issue and potential damage to the pool floor etc.) Get enough people together, start a club (like a water disco a la Ibiza) and there's the second difficulty -- getting enough wammers together regularly, as at least half the fun is the *spontaneity*.

Alternatively, forget council-run pools public swimming sessions, and explore various beaches (unfortunately this is weather-dependent), persuade a health club to let you do ''stamina training'' or ''swimwear design trials'' in their member-only pool (worked wonderfully for me!), or get a cheap (£200.) 12-by-12-by-2footdeep plastic above-ground garden swimming pool (again, weather-dependent).

I want to be able to go to the local outdoor lido this weekend and jump in the water fully clothed. i love swimming in my clothes in swimming pools. My wife Clara wants to swim as well. She does not want to wear her micro bikini that would show just about everything. She wants to simply jump in wearing her jeans, shoes and shirt. She does not want to make a fuss, she justs want to swim enjoying the feel of her wet clothing for about half an hour. What are the chances of this happening - absolutely zilch, nil, nothing, zero.

Look I want to swim in my clothes in public and feel at ease. I will now have to drive about 12 miles to a secluded lake. We will definately go in for a swim and all the time we'll be looking around worried and guilty that we are being watched. This is so crap since we are not doing anything wrong. This has got to change and do you know it is not the men who have to alter their ways but the girls out there. The more that they go in the water in their clothes the more this will be accepted as NORMAL.

Please tell me I am right or I will go nuts.
