In reply to Message (23407.2) there's other cigarette ads w/wetlook
By wetinwisc - cheesehead1965@hotmail.com Wed 05/07/06 14:24:08 GMT First of all, I wish to say that I do not smoke, and dislike smoking. However, I remember other cigarette print ads with wetlook. I can remember seeing a couple of Salem ads; one with a woman sitting on a man's shoulders, with her in a blue denium shirt and shorts, and him in a tank-top, in a river (from 1974); and another one with a man and woman in a creek splashing each other (from 1975). I can also remember a couple of Newport Lights ads; one with two women chicken fighting from 1977, and another one with a woman in a yellow shirt, either over a fountain or coming out of a pool, from 1980. I don't have any links to those pics, though. |
In reply to Message (23407) Psuedo VIntage Wetlook / Virginia Slims
By John Smith - none@anonymous.org Wed 05/07/06 11:27:17 GMT WARNING -- the pictures in this posting are part of the tobacco ads for the Virginia Slims brand of cigarettes -- content may be offensive to anti-smokers...
Now that the disclaimer is out of the way... Years ago I ran accross some Virginia Slims ads in TV Guide. I was lucky enough to find an online archive of tobacco ads that contained the very ads I recalled from the late 1970's / early 1980's.
The ads were part of the Virginia Slims advertising campagn with the theme of "You've come a long way baby... to get where you got to today". Each ad featured a short illustrated vignette describing how women were punished back in "the bad old days" for the unfemenine behaivior of smoking cigarettes.
Submitted for your approval please find links to selected ads from the Virginia Slims campaign... Maybe our colleagues at the Vintage Wetlook site might consider incorporating these pictures.
