From a production standpoint, my guess is that the actress took off her boots for some of the swimming scenes (and i have ZERO idea what kind of boots she wears *specifically*) and perhaps the "jump in" scene and the "climb out" scene were filmed first, and THEN the "swimming to land" scene was filmed (often, filming does not occur in the sequence that the story is viewed...) even that this particular scene might have been filmed over 2 days?

And then, in real life...on one hand a person probably would want the boots (or any kind of footwear) for walking AFTER the swim, but at the same time, might lose the boots in order to not drown. Tragically, drowning is also one possibility...

I have 2 questions for you, please:

Do you think her boots actually are wellies, 1970s design; or do you think they are some kind of rubber riding boots? I can't tell, it's not clear enough.

Also, I notice you only actually see her with the boots on as she jumps into the water and climbs out again. Do you suppose the actress actually had the boots on whilst swimming, or that maybe she took them off for swimming, and it was edited out? I know you have no way of knowing for sure, but what is your best guess?

At the risk of sounding like a cracked record, her boots don't fall off because they fit her properly. You can see this at 13:48, when it took quite a bit of effort to get them off even when she wanted to.

1970s wetlook: jumper, jeans and wellies

From the UK tv series "The Changes", broadcast in 1975 - A girl in her late teens jumps off a boat and has to swim to dry land, including a shot of her climbing out of the water soaking wet. She is wearing a long wooly jumper, jeans and black wellies. Amazingly, her wellies don't fall off during her swim in the water.
