Many old Western movies show cowboys in public bath houses, and many of them get in the tub wearing long john underwear and t-shirts (t-shirts were exclusively underwear then). Sometimes they took baths fully clothes, and in at least one movie I saw a cowboy took a bath fully clothed with a saloon woman also fully clothed. I assume these things really happened in the Old West. |

By Roadrage - Fri 15/09/06 10:44:04 GMT Dude, I've seen family type show where they show people in the bathtub, and although I'm sure in reality they are not actually nude, they keep all the naughty parts covered so the viewing audience can assume they are naked. After all, even the most modest of us still bathes naked. It doesn't make sence to do it any other way. If the makers of that movie were so uptight that they didn't want to show a shirtless old man from the waist up in a bathtub, they should have just cut that scene. People bathe naked and that scene was wierd to me and didn't make any sence. Your expalnation is weak my friend. Regardless of weather this is a childrens movie or not, a shirtless man is something that even the most uptight of cultures does not find offensive. If I was in that movie I would have wanted them to either cut that scene completely, or put soap suds all the way up to my shoulders because I'm ashamed of my big man titts! :( Do you think maybe Martin Landaeu is ahamed of his man boobs as well? |

By Desert Hawk - Thu 14/09/06 20:17:38 GMT In a children's film, they aren't going to show a naked man in a bathtub! The movie The Toy, starring Richard Pryor, had a similar scene. Richard's character was a rich boy's servant. When the boy went to take a bath, he said he wanted Richard's character to get in the tub with him. Richard's character said "It wouldn't be right for a grown man and a little boy to be naked in the bathtub together, so let's take a bath with our clothes on!", and they did. The boy's dad, his dad's girlfriend, and the other servants thought it was wierd. |

By Roadrage - Thu 14/09/06 14:06:16 GMT I figured someone at this forum would know what's up with this. A few years ago while channel surfing stumbled upon a Pinoccio movie. Martin Landaeu played Gipetto (please excuse my horrible spelling). In one scene he was taking a bath in what appeared to be some sort of pajamas. For no reason and there was never an explanation why in the movie. Is this part of old Italian culture, like a modesty thing? I always thought Europeans were very comfortable with their nudity. Anyway I don't know why I thought of this today but it's just something I wonder about. Any info or opinions will be verey much appreciated.
