In an article celebrating 20 years of the making of the film there is a column about the clothing being sourced from all over the world and all being authentic Edwardian era.

The wardrobe mistress mention's there was a lifeboat filled with fancifully dressed people in period clothing with shoes, Gloves and jewellery

,The director decided he wanted more people in the water so just tipped the whole lot in, To the utter horror of the wardrobe department.

The actor's who were supposed to be in the water wore wetsuits under their clothing, But this lifeboat's occupants did not as they were not supposed to get wet.
