Yup there is even the new Samsung S8 ad that takes a swipe at the iPhone. Has the guy and girl falling off the pier fully clothed and the Samsung working and the iPhone being optimistically put in a bowl of rice. Bear in mind Samsung phones have been waterproof since the S5 of 2014.

Frankly if someone's iPhone gets wrecked from being pushed in water, I think it serves them right for blind brand loyalty and enabling Apple to be assholes.

This is already the greatest era for candid wetlook on the internet. People are still being pushed in pools and the current technology makes it easier than ever before to get pics/vids of it on the internet.

Combine that with millennial narcissism and desire for attention and you have a magic formula. What wrecks it and ultimately gets said images taken down is the sheer amount of creeps in the Wetlook community who can't keep it in their pants.

In the next couple of years all smartphones will be waterproof, the majority of wetlook fetishists will still be creepy and nothing will change.

In a way, yes for two reasons:

1. Until very recently, phones and cameras were commonly not waterproof. So going into a pool in your clothes with a phone in your pocket meant it was ruined

2. Everything gets filmed, shared, posted, archived, and can cause potential embarrassment out of context. So in the 90s a woman might get drunk at a party and go wild ending up in the pool and few people would know (or remember). Nowadays, that ends up on Instagram, shared with 100s of people, and remembered over and over

As a corollary to #2, attitudes have changed too. We all do silly and crazy things sometimes and if no one gets hurts or is forced to do something against their will, who cares? So I hope modern phones that can just dry off and keep working help us back to a great era of wetlook.

I always liked the pictures of (german) Beachparty/ freibad poolparties.

Lots of girls ended in the pool clothed

These pictures seems like they have gone nowadays.

How is that possible, did the fact that everyone has an expensive phone caused the situation that nobody ends in the pool anymore ;) ?
